JOHOR BAHRU ATTRACTIONS


Johor Bahru is the capital city of Johor in southern Malaysia. Johor Bahru is the southernmost city of the Eurasian mainland. With a population of approximately 900,000 in the city, and nearly 2 million in the metropolitan area, Johor Bahru is the second largest urban area in Malaysia, after the national capital, Kuala Lumpur. Johor Bahru is easily reached from Singapore, and receives 49.9 percent of the country's annual 22.5 million foreign tourists via its bridges and road links to Singapore. The city is an important industrial,tourism and commercial hub for southern Malaysia and one of the biggest industrial centers of the country.

Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque
"Perched upon a hill-top, the mosque combines the neo-classical Western and Islamic architecture, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia."

The Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque is regarded as one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia, with its amazing combination of Western neo-classical and Islamic architecture. This mosque can accommodate about 2,000 worshippers at any one time. The mosque is strategically located on top of a hill on Jalan Abu Bakar, overlooking the Straits of Tebrau. Sultan Abu Bakar mosque was named after the late Sultan Abu Bakar, the "Father of Modern Johor", who laid the foundation stone in 1892. Construction of the mosque was completed in 1900, a few years after his death. Today, the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque is listed as a protected heritage monument by the Department of Museums and Antiquities.

Johor Bahru Duty Free Zone
"The largest duty-free complex in Malaysia. It has a hotel and convention centre, a floating restaurant with a popular nightclub and a five-level shopping podium."

Johor Bahru Duty Free Zone is the largest duty-free complex in Malaysia. This shopping paradise is strategically sited on a 17acres of prime land at the end of Jalan Ibrahim Sultan in Stulang, Johor Bahru. The zone comprises of four level shopping podium, with 350,000 square feet of shopping area and a 503 room of International class hotel above the shopping  complex. It also houses a convention centre, a floating restaurant and a popular night club. Ferry links to Singapore and Indonesia are available through the nearby Johor Bahru International Ferry Terminal. The zone is open from 10am through 10pm.

Spacious food, batik wax, clothing, fabrics, shops located on the Ground Floor and smaller lots for small scale Entrepreneurs.

Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation (JARO) Handicrafts Centre
The JARO Handicrafts Centre, formerly located along Jalan Sungai Chat, sells hand-made cane furniture, soft toys, rattan baskets and customised book-binds, among others, all produced by the physically disabled charges of the state government. As of June 2009, it had shifted to new premises. Check with the tourist office at JOTIC or at the new Immigration, Customs and Quarantine checkpoint. JARO is a state sponsored organisation that focuses on the needs of the disabled through its rehabilitative shelter and workshop programme.

Jalan Segget Bazaar
Daily open-air bazaar in the heart of JB with business from 6pm to 2am. Jalan Segget is a street that runs between Jalan Ibrahim and Jalan Wong Ah Fook. This is a bazaar that sells mostly clothes. But a wide range of other products are also sold - bags, belts, electric fans, food and drinks, footwear, handphone accessories, perfumes, sunglasses, toys, wallets, watches, etc.

Galeri Coklat
Located about 30m northwest of the major T-junction comprising Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan and Jalan Tanjung Puteri. This shop-cum-museum is run by GCB Foods Sdn Bhd, a leading, Malaysian supplier of cocoa-related products. The museum and shop are found side by side in one big room on the ground level of a modern, 3-storey building. Here, you can purchase a wide range of chocolate products (both chocolate sweets and beverages) under GCB Foods' umbrella brand name "CacaoRich". You can also have free samples of the shop's chocolate drink. The cocoa and chocolate museum is straight ahead of you as you enter the door. It has illustrated descriptions of the types of chocolate, the history of chocolate, the chocolate-making process, the health benefits and nutritional values of chocolate and the cocoa tree. In addition, there are displays of cocoa beans, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, cocoa massa, cocoa cake, etc. Admission to the museum is free. Open daily (including public holidays) 0830-1730
